by Cristina on May 25, 2012

I still have some sweet potato slips that want to be planted, but I’m getting there.

Two bushel baskets are already full, and I hope to get the rest planted this weekend. Already planning ahead for the harvest…

i love all your post and pics. I also planted sweet potato slips this week end i hope i get some tators :) the others are still in the glass bowl waiting for them to grow a few more inches before i put them out. What do you do with the potato once you pick all the slips off, can u plant it, or just throw it away. normally i do but as a experiment this time i planted the potato just to see what happens. thanks! happy gardening:)

Oh yeah, just plant the whole potato. You should get another burst of growth from it, which will give you another nice sweet potato plant. I usually plant the leftover pieces of sweet potato at about soil level — half above and half below. Not sure if that’s better than burying it. That’s just what I started doing, and it works for me. :)

I can’t wait to try this…how do i know when I can harvest the sweet potatoes?? Is it just 100 days after they have bee planted? then do you pull the whole plant out or just dig up sweet potato?
